About our Facebook housing groups

Our housing communities are open to everyone who is offering or looking for an apartment or room for rent or sublet.

For renters who are looking to rent an apartment or room, we kindly ask you to:

  • Tell us a bit about yourself, and what you’re looking for!
  • Be as specific as possible! Add your move-in date, search criteria, specific requirements, etc.
  • Don’t reveal too much personal information right away – exercise common sense!

For landlords or individuals offering an apartment or a room for rent or sublet:
  • Describe the property in as much detail as possible. Include price, dates, location, pictures, and any other important details.
  • Avoid adding external links.
We work hard to keep this group a safe space for all our members. Therefore, we ask all our community members to:
  • Keep it kind: We welcome people from all races, national origins, gender, sexual orientation, religion, political leanings, professional and personal background. Do not attack or harass other members, block admins, or be disrespectful.
  • Keep it relevant: Please keep content relevant to the housing search. Content that is inappropriate, irrelevant, political, or religious will be removed.
  • Keep it honest: We have a zero-tolerance policy for scammers and fraudsters. Our groups are meticulously combed daily and suspected and reported members will be blocked without warning.
  • Do note that Alpaca does not directly manage any properties or know all of our users personally. For that reason, we ask our members to be alert and take standard security precautions to avoid rental fraud.
  • Keep it clean: Hate speech and swear words do not have a place here. Inappropriate content will not be tolerated and will be removed without warning.
  • Keep it compliant: Safety and privacy are very important to us. Avoid posting screenshots that display personal information of other people or screenshots of content that violates Facebook’s community standards.

I am a landlord offering a property for rent. Can I post it in your housing groups?

Yes, you can list your property for rent in our housing groups for free. Check out our list of groups here: https://www.facebook.com/alpaca.casa/groups/ and join the group of your interest, to be able to post there.

Yes, you can list your room for sublease in our housing groups for free! Find the group of your interest here: https://www.facebook.com/alpaca.casa/groups/.

No. We do not allow posts selling furniture or any type of goods in our housing groups. Only posts from users either offering or looking for accommodation, sorry.

How do I post in your housing groups?

To be able to post, you should first join the group of your interest. Please note that each request to join one of our groups typically takes a few hours to get approved. As an approved member, you will then have the ability to create posts stating what you are offering/looking for.

In some groups, you can have two possibilities to post: either posting something under the “Buy and Sell” section, or under the “Discussion” section.

Posting under the “Buy and Sell” section allows you to list items for sale (it also works for properties for rent), mark items as sold, search items to buy, and it has a “Message” button on the bottom right of the listing, so you can contact the seller via private message on Facebook Messenger. This feature gives the post a listing structure, similar to when you post on Facebook Marketplace.

Posting under the “Discussion” section allows you to post with a regular structure, which can be used for listing or looking for properties for rent, as well as to ask/give recommendations, advice, ask questions, etc.

Check out the following two questions to learn how to post under each section.

How do I post under the "Buy and Sell" section of your housing groups?

  • Go to the group where you want to post.
  • Tap on the “Buy and Sell” section that you’ll see on the top of the group’s feed.
  • Click on “Sell Something”.
  • Fill out all the fields (What are you selling, Price, Location, Description, and add pictures), and click on “Next”.
  • You can choose to add your listing only to that group or to also add it to Facebook Marketplace, or any other group you’re a member of.
  • Click on “Post”.
Please keep in mind that posts are typically approved within a few hours.

How do I post under the "Discussion" section of your housing groups?

  • Go to the group where you want to post.
  • Tap on the “Discussion” section that you’ll see on the top of the group’s feed.
  • Click on "Write something" (on mobile), or in “What’s on your mind?” (on desktop), and describe what you're offering or looking for.
  • If you're looking to rent out a room/apartment/house, we strongly recommend you add as many details as possible, as well as pictures of the property. It would help you make your post more visible.
  • Click on "Post".
Please keep in mind that posts are typically approved within a few hours.

How often can I post in a group?

You can post up to eight times per month. If you want to use the groups more extensively or for commercial purposes, please contact info@alpaca.casa.

Join requests are typically approved within a few hours. There may be times when approval takes longer when our servers are undergoing maintenance. If this is the case, please contact us at info@alpaca.casa and we’ll do our best to help.

How long does it take for my post to be approved?

Typically a post should be approved within a few hours. If it takes more time to be approved, it might be because our servers are under maintenance. If that's the case, feel free to send us an email at info@alpaca.casa and we’ll try to approve your post as soon as possible.

How can I edit my post?

Why has my post been declined?

Your post must have been identified as unsuitable or it might not follow our group rules. If we got this wrong (which we do sometimes!), please let us know at info@alpaca.casa and we will rectify the problem.

If you didn't include any external link and didn't violate our group rules, your posts may have been deleted by Facebook, not by us. Sometimes the post will still be shown as pending for you, while we will not be able to see it. Unfortunately, there's nothing we as group administrators can do about it.
In this case, you should see that your posts have been deleted and usually Facebook provides information in its support inbox: www.facebook.com/support.

I have followed your group rules, but my post is not showing up in your group nor Facebook's support inbox

It's likely your post has been approved but you are having problems finding it in the group. Please check your group’s activity log on Facebook whether you can find it: www.facebook.com/me/allactivity.

If you can't find it there either, it might have been declined by us because we misidentified it as inappropriate. In that case please please contact us at info@alpaca.casa and include the following info:

  • Name on your Facebook account and a link to your profile.
  • Group you are trying to post in.
  • The text you are trying to post.

Although we do our best to keep our communities as scam-free as possible, we do not manage any properties directly in other cities apart from Boston and New York City, and we don’t know all of our users personally. Therefore, we kindly ask you to take standard security precautions to avoid rental scam. You can also write to us at info@alpaca.casa and we will look into the matter.

Please report the post and write to us at info@alpaca.casa indicating the name of the user you suspect is spamming.

Our systems have probably identified you as a potential spammer. Please write to us at info@alpaca.casa so we can look into the matter.

Thank you for your interest in joining our team. At the moment, we do not plan to add any additional admin.
